Top Five Luxury Cars of 2022

Luxury cars evoke feelings of prestige and wealth, and they often use more expensive materials. They may offer higher-end entertainment systems or advanced safety features, and they’re likely to have powerful, high-precision engines.

But defining what makes a luxury car can be difficult. Some automakers known for their economy models are moving into the market, blurring the lines for many shoppers looking for an upscale ride.

1. Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo

The Taycan Cross Turismo is a unique proposition in luxury electric cars. It’s a comfortable, effortless SUV that can, with the flick of a button, turn into an otherworldly sports car. For 2022, Porsche has added a GTS variant that slots between the 4S and Turbo trims and offers more power and performance-oriented equipment as standard.

Other features include a panoramic roof, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, satellite radio, a 10.9-inch touchscreen, a navigation system, a 10.2-inch curved instrument panel and wireless integration for smartphone app connectivity. The Taycan also gets the firm-but-not-harsh ride and superb driving position you’d expect from a Porsche. You can also opt for sustainable tanned Club Leather OLEA or Race-Tex leather for an interior that’s both stylish and functional.

2. Bentley Continental GT

Bentley’s big GT coupe combines the performance, luxury and capacity of a grand tourer. It has been a benchmark since its introduction in 2003.

The latest version of this large and luxurious sports car is even better than its predecessors. Powered by a twin-turbo W12, the Continental GT Speed can blitz from 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 208mph.

A 2021 Continental GT Speed that we tested was loaded with options like 22″ black-painted “Speed Wheels,” carbon fiber trimming and 인천운전연수 an array of luxury add-ons. But the real star was its opulent interior, a padded luxury cocoon where you can stretch out and take day-long drives without fatigue. You can even upgrade the standard 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a premium 2,200-watt Naim setup.

3. Bentayga

A Bentley SUV might not be the most practical car out there, but it offers a blend of high-performance and sybaritic luxury that few competitors can match. Unlike the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7, the Bentayga also boasts genuine off-road ability (though it’s still not a pure off-roader like the Lamborghini Urus).

The latest model gets a new-for-2021 10.9-inch infotainment system that looks crisp and modern and is relatively easy to navigate. It has the added benefit of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Several options can be added to the base Bentayga, including the Bentley City Specification for negotiating unfamiliar cities, the Touring Specification for long-distance driving and the evocative Diamond Illumination ambient lighting that shines through hand-stitched leather. Bentley’s bespoke Mulliner department can even create an entirely custom interior to make your Bentayga unique.

4. Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the benchmark for luxury sedans. This roomy model is incredibly agile in the corners, belying its heft. It also has a luxurious cabin with ample legroom, especially in Maybach models. Its infotainment system uses a large touch screen and responds quickly to input. It can identify the driver via a face scan, voice print or typing PIN. There’s even an enhanced head-up display that displays navigation directions in augmented reality.

Though Mercedes now offers an electric EQS sedan, this traditional gas-powered flagship upholds the brand’s tradition of being a leader in luxury and technology. Other luxury sedans to consider include the Porsche Panamera and Audi A8. Fresh paint and upholstery options are available through Mercedes’ Manufaktur program. Adding options is a bit expensive, however.

5. BMW 5 Series

The most successful generation of the BMW 5 Series has been on the market since 2010. Its elegant design and sheer driving pleasure typical of a business sedan combined with a large number of innovative technologies secures pole position in this segment.

The 2024 BMW 5 Series boasts a spacious, well-appointed cabin that’s filled with high-quality materials and advanced technology. Standard power front sport seats in fine leather or simulated Veganza upholstery offer maximum comfort and adjustability.

Available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and Integral Active Steering improve driving dynamics. You can also upgrade your BMW 5 Series with various comfort and safety features. Smart technology like wireless Apple CarPlay(r) and Android Auto ™ compatibility and the BMW iDrive 8.5 operating system keep you connected on your journey.

6. BMW M2

The 2023 BMW M2 takes the fun and excitement of its predecessor and turns it up to 11. The compact two-door coupe is small enough for urban thrills but has a state-of-the-art suspension, chassis and tech package worthy of the M division’s premium badge.

Its 460-hp twin-turbocharged inline-six is also used by the bigger M3 and M4, yet it feels nimbler than those larger cars. This is largely thanks to the new chassis, which has a smaller front track width and rear wheelbase than the regular 2 Series Coupe.

Inside, the slick infotainment system from the regular 2 Series Coupe is amped up with a Curved Display driver’s display and extra M software to tweak steering, dampers and throttle performance. It’s a joy to drive, and its affordable price and excellent resale value make it a solid luxury car choice.

7. Alfa Romeo Giulia

A popular choice among drivers seeking a luxurious sport sedan that can also do everything well, the Giulia is one of the best cars on sale. Its 280-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and next-generation eight-speed automatic transmission provide effortless acceleration, while perfect weight distribution and track-inspired rear-wheel drive make it a joy to drive on the road or at the racetrack.

Alfa offers a generous suite of safety and driver assistance systems, including Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus, Active Blind Spot Detection, Driver Attention Alert and Traffic Jam Assist. Advanced ADAS functions that can take over driving duties up to Level 2 autonomy are available with higher-spec trims.

For 2023, the Alfa Romeo Giulia gets a new infotainment system with an 8.8-inch touchscreen and fresh card-based operating system. A new limited-edition Lusso and Estrema trims are also introduced, building off of the Ti model with upscale leather interiors, navigation and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
